Botanical art has its roots in old herbal remedies produced by monks who needed to safely share their recipes with other monks. This involved depicting plants used with a high degree of accuracy so that other monks could identify the plants used without fear of poisoning their patients
Plant hunters of the 1700’s and 1800’s had to portray their specimens with scientific accuracy and Botanical art evolved into a “pleasing pastime” for gentle ladies.
All the work in this exhibition has been painted by students at Debbie Devauden's weekly arts classes at LGAC and other venues in the local area.
