Makers Xchange

Makers Xchange

31 January 2015 until 14 March 2015

‘MakersXchange’ is a new initiative where Venues and Makers Guilds from across Wales and the South West are coupled to exchange and present the work of makers they regularly show or represent. LGAC has linked with the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and we will be presenting the work of ceramicist Pauline Zelinski. In her recent work Pauline has been developing ideas through the use of underglaze colours. Each piece is made from white earthenware clay, underglaze colours are mixed and hand painted onto each piece before biscuit firing. Careful mixing and patient building up of the colours produces vibrant tones and hues, and the final glazing and firing reveals their full intensity. Pauline is based in Exeter, Devon.

Emily is a mixed media jeweller who currently works with wood, laminate and silver. She uses techniques such as piercing, sanding, waxing, riveting and soldering, with each piece a development of the one before. Initial ideas from plants, buildings, repetition, pattern and colour are drawn in her sketchbook they then develop intuitively as Emily works with the materials. Originally from Hereford, Emily studied at the University of Brighton and is now based in London.

The humble apron and pinafore hold an seminal position in social and cultural history. Eleven members of the textiles collective MaP Group along with six invited makers have created contemporary responses to the traditional ‘pinny’ blending high quality craftsmanship with a large helping of nostalgia, creativity and humour.

The exhibition will also feature a selection of historic Pinnies from Ruth Furlong’s collection.
